ANT 110 Danville Urban Renewal Timeline Project: Cite information for this project

How to cite newspaper articles using Chicago Style

When adding information to the timeline, you should site your Advocate Messenger sources in one of two places: either at the end of your text entry (for summarized information) or in the photo credit (for images of clippings). The Chicago Style format for newspaper articles is as follows:

Newspaper (print) article with author

AuthorLastName AuthorFirstName, “Article Title,” Newspaper Title, Date.

Ex. Ashurst, Betty. "Property Obtained for Urban Renewal." Advocate-Messenger, November 22, 1970.

Newspaper (print) article without author

“Article Title,” Newspaper Title, Date.

Ex. "Historic Preservation Danville Renewal Key." Advocate-Messenger. February 25, 1968.

Newspaper (online) article with author

AuthorLastName AuthorFirstName, “Article Title,” Newspaper Title, Date, Database.

Ex. Ashurst, Betty. "Property Obtained for Urban Renewal." Advocate-Messenger, November 22, 1970, Newspapers.com.

Newspaper (online) article without author

“Article Title,” Newspaper Title, Date, Database.

Ex. "Historic Preservation Danville Renewal Key." Advocate-Messenger. February 25, 1968, Newspapers.com.
