Expanding and Connecting Pathways to Diversity

June 19 - 20, 2023

Centre College. Danville, KY

About Pathways to Diversity

In 2018, four ACS colleges partnered to research and document their own unique pathways to desegregation. Centre College, Rollins College, Washington & Lee University, and Furman University spent 4 years conducting archival research, documenting findings, digitizing and describing materials, and making them accessible through the Pathways to Diversity website.  This initiative was funded through the ACS-Mellon initiatives on faculty and staff advancement.

Now those four colleges want to help you discover your institution's history of desegregation and/or stories of diversity. Sign up for the Pathways to Diversity workshop and learn how you can contribute to this exciting project.

Thanks to a grant from the ACS, we are able to provide $350 for travel for up to 24 individuals and food and lodging will also be covered for these participants.

Workshop Schedule

June 19, 2023

Monday evening from 5-7pm, in honor of Juneteenth, there will be a program hosted by local historians Michael Hughes and Mike Denis of the Danville Boyle County African American Historical Society. Mr. Hughes and Mr. Denis will discuss the history of Danville’s Black business district, Second Street, in conjunction with the award-winning We Were Here exhibit. This historical storytelling project celebrates our area’s rich African American heritage and acknowledges the societal and cultural erasure endured by the Danville and Boyle County African American community in the name of urban renewal. Dinner will be served.
