Circulation and Borrowing

Borrowing

Centre College faculty, staff and students may borrow materials from The Grace Doherty Library in accordance with established circulation rules. Presentation of a valid college ID card is required to check out materials.

Community users are welcome to use the materials in the library onsite without a fee. Checkout of materials is governed by the policies for non-Centre College users.

Availability of Material

The library's online catalog displays the location, call number, and status of an item. A status of AVAILABLE indicates an item which is not currently in circulation and can be checked out. Patrons should check the shelves to see if the item is there. If not, report this to the circulation desk. Items that are checked out will give a due date.

Other Statuses and Their Meanings

Not Available Item is unavailable. (Could indicate item is missing, on hold for another patron, or too damaged for circulation.)
Checked Out Item is currently checked out (followed by due date). If the due date is old (as in not in the future) or you desperately need the book for your studies, please speak with the Circulation supervisor on duty.

Renewals, Returning Material and Replacement Fines

The number of books Centre College students, faculty and staff may check out from the Library’s own holdings is unlimited. Students and staff may renew books up to three times (per title) unless a book has been recalled for use by another patron. Faculty have unlimited renewals for books. Books in our "Browsing Collection" allow one renewal for all patrons.

Please return all checked out material in a timely manner to the Circulation Desk so that everyone can enjoy access to our resources.

Reminder emails will be sent to all patrons about overdue and long overdue material. Material not returned will result in replacement fines as indicated below. Please note that Interlibrary Loan books have a daily overdue fine.
