What is Fake News?

Let's begin by defining some terms:

Misinformation: False information, regardless of whether or not it is intended to mislead or deceive people.

Disinformation: False information that is spread with the specific intent of misleading or deceiving people.

Fake news: False news stories, often of a sensational nature, created to be widely shared or distributed for the purpose of generating revenue or promoting or discrediting a public figure, political movement, company, etc.
