Library Reserves

What are reserves?

Reserves are specific materials like books, articles, or media that an instructor has set aside for their students to use for a particular course, often with limited borrowing times to ensure availability for all students. Course reserves are designed to make high-demand materials, typically required readings for a class, accessible to all students in that course.

What kind do you need? The library offers three types of reserves:
  • Electronic reserves uploaded to Moodle:
  • Physical Items: 4-Hour Closed Reserves organized by your name and course, stored at the Circulation Desk:
    • These include DVDs or books for short-term access by students, to watch or read chapters. Closed reserves help manage student textbook costs. They can read an assigned chapter or watch a film within the 4-hour checkout time.
    • If we don’t own the material you want on closed reserve, please submit an order to our Book It ordering system, available on your CentreNet Faculty page (after login).
  • Physical Items: 3-Day Open Reserves organized by your name and course, stored at the Circulation Desk:
    • These include books for 3-day student access and use. Open reserves often contain faculty-selected books on a certain topic for students to browse and narrow down their own research topics.
