Oral Presentation Resources

General Guidelines

I.  Introduction

-Capture your listeners’ attention.

-State your purpose.

-Present an outline of your talk.

II.  The Meat

-Present your main points in a logical order.

      To Do: Pause at the end of each point.

-Make it clear when you move to another point.

       To Do: Use clear examples to illustrate your points and/or key findings.

-Use a visual aid to make your presentation more interesting.

III.  Wrap Up

-Summarize everything that you have covered.

     To Do: Reiterate the main points again.

-Restate the purpose of the talk

     To Do: Say that you have achieved your aim: "My intention was ..., and it should now be clear that...."

-Make it obvious that you have reached the end of the presentation, do not let your presentation fizzle out.

     To Do: Thank the audience and invite questions (if appropriate).
