This Research Help guide is designed for students seeking biographical and background information on important individuals. Since there are countless sources for biographical information, this guide is not intended to be comprehensive. Rather, it can serve as a starting point for beginning your research.

Biographies are available in a variety of lengths from books to short paragraphs. Before beginning a search for a biography it is helpful to have some basic information such as

• possible name variations
• type of information needed, e.g. brief sketch or an in-depth biography
• living or deceased
• gender
• ethnicity
• profession, subject, or discipline
