You may have remembered using keywords for prior research assignments, or typed some topic words into the search bar to find articles. This keyword development page will focus on other areas to find keywords and hopefully aid you in finding more relevant articles, something we all strive for in our research.
Once you have found an article that seems relevant, scroll below the title and author information to find the Subject Terms, Keywords, or Author-supplied Keywords. When you click on these words, they will take you to another page where the database will automatically search that keyword. To be technical, these terms and keywords build the index for all databases to organize and make academic articles easy to find.
This can be helpful if you are in a rut and searching for newer articles for your assignment. Consider using these subject terms or keywords in combination with your previous search or swapping them with previous search terms.
The goal here is to be persistent. Use any combination of words, synonyms, or keywords from the author/database to find relevant articles in your paper. A great article could be hiding in plain sight; all you need is a subject term or keyword to help you find it.
The keywords are highlighted below.
