The Colleges Partnering with Communities Project consists of an inter-campus network of undergraduate courses at six liberal arts colleges across the Southern region: Fisk University, Centre College, Rollins College, the University of Richmond, the University of the South, and Washington and Lee University. Our students are partnering this academic year with representatives of local communities of color who have deep historical links to our respective campuses. The students and community groups are jointly developing online exhibits, archives, and other locally oriented projects that explore those connections and confront the history and legacies of racial inequities in our shared communities.

Gender has been a central component of the student experience at Centre College. As a residential liberal arts institution, gender directly structured spaces for academics, socializing, and living. Product of the Spring 2021, History 375 class.

In January of 2022, several courses at Centre participated in the Hostile Terrain 94 (HT94) project sponsored and organized by the Undocumented Migration Project. This site documents the creation of the project.

Paving the Way is a digital collection of the work of President Walter A. Groves at Centre College, Danville, KY. Groves served as president of the college from 1948-1956, and one of his goals was admitting African-American students at Centre, a traditionally all-White college. This site was developed by Hannah Ensign-George ’18 using primary documents from the Centre College Special Collections and Archives.

Queer Centre aims to collect, feature, and share what has been the hidden (at times by necessity) history of the LGBTQ+ community at Centre College.

This historical storytelling project celebrates our area’s rich African American heritage and acknowledges the societal and cultural erasure endured by the Danville and Boyle County African American community in the name of urban renewal.
