U.S. Copyright Office

The United States Copyright Office is a division of the Library of Congress and is the federal agency responsible for regulating Copyright Law.

Here are some helpful links found on the United States Copyright Office Site:

  • Copyright Fact Sheets and Information Circulars
  • Copyright Registration Forms (for Authors of published, or unpublished works)  There is a fee to register your work with the Copyright Office.
  • Copyright Search  Works registered and documents recorded by the U.S. Copyright Office since January1, 1978.  You can search for the holder of the copyright of a work you want to use here, but keep in mind that not all works are registered with the Copyright Office and that any work fixed in a tangible medium is automatically granted copyright.
