There are three types of reserves for student access:
- Electronic Reserves uploaded to Moodle:
- These include book chapters or journal articles that cannot be accessed through our online databases. We must obtain copyright permission and pay for these materials to stay within copyright compliance.
- If we have electronic access to an e-book or journal article, you can include the permalink in your course without submitting a request to us. When possible, we prefer you use permalinks instead of PDFs in your course as we cannot pull usage statistics unless the material is accessed from a link. (If you need assistance with generating stable links, please contact Jazmine Wilson, our Electronic Resources librarian.)
- 4-Hour Closed Reserves organized by your name and course and kept at the Circulation Desk:
- These include DVDs or books for short-term access by students, to watch or read chapters. Closed reserves help manage student textbook costs. They can read an assigned chapter or watch a film within the 4-hour checkout time.
- If we don’t own the material you want on closed reserve, please submit an order to our Book It ordering system, available on your CentreNet Faculty page (after login).
- 3-Day Open Reserves organized by your name and course and kept at the Circulation Desk:
- These include books for 3-day student access and use. Open reserves often contain faculty-selected books on a certain topic for students to browse and narrow down their own research topics.
