CreateSpace: Game & Program Design

For Programmers and Those Who Tinker!

CreateSpace is the place to design and experiment! In addition to programming and game design software installed on the studio computers (see the sidebar for a list), CreateSpace also offers various kits to try out!

Image of Arduino electronics starter kitThe Arduino Starter Kit walks you through the basics of Arduino and electronics in a hands-on way. No prior experience is required as the kit introduces both coding and electronics through fun, engaging, and hands-on projects. It comes with a 170-page project guide book and includes over 100 components. You’ll be able to build 15 different projects using components that let you control the physical world with different kinds of sensors and actuators.

You can dive right into inventing and experimenting. Connect to the world: Turn bananas into touchpads! Craft your own video game controller! Make musical circuits with items around the house! Makey Makey extends beyond the screen and brings engineering and coding concepts to life in exciting new ways.

Software in CreateSpace

  • Blender: Free and open-source 3D creation suite that supports the entirety of the 3D pipeline -- modeling, rigging, animation, simulation, rendering, compositing and motion tracking, video editing and game creation.
  • Matlab: Programming & numeric computing platform used to analyze data, develop algorithms, and create models.
  • Python programming language
  • STATA: Statistical software for data science.
  • Unity: Cross-platform game engine that supports a variety of desktop, mobile, console and virtual reality platforms. It is particularly popular for iOS and Android mobile game development, is considered easy to use for beginner developers, and is popular for indie game development. Unity can create 3D and 2D games as well as interactive simulations and other experiences.
